- It’s a man’s world….here, women have been traditionally treated as a possession. Her very existence depended on man’s whims. She was fed or starved, loved or hated, humiliated or revered, as per man’s need and convenience. As if her entire existence is not real but a mirage of man’s will. Sita was no exception, and the epitome of masculinity and justice, Ram, was no different either. On multiple occasions Ram sacrificed Sita to serve his own interest and political gain. She was banished and exiled in order to portay Ram as a citizen-centric, just, able leader; to uphold Ram’s glory. Ram’s glory!
- Oh yes, we all know that famous epic – Ramayan. But if we read between the lines of Ram’s glory, we will find Sita’s story……a story that screams of injustice and points out the vacuousness of success when humanity is sacrificed for fame. When a woman is treated not as a human being but as livestock. Bought and sold according to the trend in the ‘market’.
- That is our story, Sita’s story – Sitayan, a story of women of our society
