- Do you believe in Ghosts? Or God? Are you also in Religion or Giraffe? Are you an Atheist or a Believer? Do you have a clear conception of This World or the Next? Or do you just confusingly engage in debate every time within yourself or amongst group of friends? You may also choose to conveniently distance yourself at times, may disprove the present moment or your soul’s quest within the compulsion of a blurred light. But Mahesh and Harinath, the two soul mates could never ward off any of the above, could never reject the abstinent signs of time. Hence the professors of Mathematics and Philosophy were often spotted debating about Ghosts, God and Future in college classrooms, corridors, lunch breaks. Mahesh would try to inflict with his Atheist sensibilities and scientific logicalities whereas Harinath, the Believer, would prefer to adhere to his supernatural domain guarded by his own philosophical justifications. Debates would heat up to such an extent that neither God from heaven nor the Ghosts from hell would come but their colleagues certainly had to intervene. Water down the squabble. Even then, the two remained friends. But this did not stretch for long. Harinath took up the challenge to show ghosts to Mahesh. In search of supernatural existence, the two friends landed up in Kankurgachhi graveyard on an Indian Halloween Night (Bhoot Choturdoshi).
- What happened after that? Did Mahesh really encounter ghosts? What exactly happened in that night which led to the two friends’ breakup? Who were those obscure figures that encircled them? Who whispered? Who uncovered the real people from beneath the darkness of life? Removing the foil above the comical plaque, what strange life did Mahesh and Harinath witness?
- SHOB CHORITRO KALPONIK has pursued answers to these questions. Rajshekhar Basu’s (Parashuram) century old story ‘Mahesher Mahajatra’ lays the foundation for this play. Marking the debut venture of Subham Repertory, the members of Beadon Street Subham have created this play all by themselves through Script Writing workshop under supervision of Kallol Lahiri. The play is being directed by another budding talent Anamitra Khan who has evolved from Beadon Street Subham.
- This play radiates utmost sincerity to bathe in the warmth of the contemporary.
