- After the death of Gulab Gandhi ( Hari’s wife), Harilal was totally lost and this leads to a beggar’s life in future. He changes his religion twice, as a protest against his father’s behaviour. Gandhi, who was busy attending meetings and conferences, where the fate of forty crore Indians was to be decided, would often find in a newspaper screaming,” Police arrested drunk Harilal for creating a scene in the road “. And sometimes Harilal himself from the dias of the fundamentalist Muslim organizations meeting- ” I shall continue fighting till Ba (Kasturba Gandhi) and Gandhi embrace Islam”.
