Adapted from Sagarmoy Ghosh’s ‘Ekti pereker kaahini”, Santoshpur Manan’s recent production”Baidya Bidhan is a play by Shouvik Ganguly which is a docu-fiction biography of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, former Chief minister and one of the pioneers of the development in the medical infrastructure of Bengal.
The storyline of the play revolves around the life of Baidyanath, a refugee boy who came to Calcutta during the prime working days of Dr.Roy and got introduced to the city. As the story proceeds , the narrator Bishu da, slowly unfolds the crucial nooks and corners of both of their lives as their fate gets inter-twingled amidst the chaotic vibrance of the British imperialism, political disturbance, poverty and several misunderstandings which occured at various points in their lives.
Set in the early 20th century, the play depicts the artistically picturesque Kolkata, (then Calcutta) along with its colourful existence of people in their lives and their pivotal role in the healthy co-existence of Bidhan and Baidyanath.
The set design of the play has been created by Neel Koushik, and the musical score of the play has been composed by Chakropani Dev. The role of Dr.Roy and the direction has been done by thespian Sanjib Sarkar with the assistance of Sagnik Koley (Baidyanath).
